When it appeared in the Domesday Book back in 1086 it was already a pretty substantial settlement, and due to it's rather central location has a long association with London - much longer than most of South London. The Crooked Well is a fantastic independent pub that was started by three friends with heaps of experience in the hospitality industry. Their aim is to provide a professional and fun experience where you get what you actually want from a pub, no nonsense, no pretentiousness. The name 'Camberwell' is a historic reference to the presence of natural springs in the area, and The Crooked Well fits right in. Legacy
Reflecting the diverse community of Camberwell, Legacy is an independent restaurant that serves West African cuisine - mainly from Nigeria and Sierra Leone. If you don't know what West African cuisine looks like, expect plantain and plenty of stews. Purple Mango
We're big fans of Purple Mango, and it's our favourite Indian restaurant in Camberwell. We didn't actually know that there was such a thing as a purple mango before we visited Purple Mango, but now we do, and you do to if you've just searched for it. Pasha
Pasha is another restaurant in Camberwell that reflects the wonderful diversity of the area. It's rather unique in that it's a Central Asian restaurant and serves the cuisines of countries like Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Russia and Turkey. Art Deli
