If you’re a Lewisham local and having trouble finding motivation to get outside, this is for you. If we can have one walk per day, make it count by visiting a stunning park or get lost for a while in a amonst the woodland. These are stressful times and it can be calming to remember that nature still continues, even when everything else is on hold.
Hilly Fields
Hilly Fields is now home to one of the many NHS street art tributes found across South London, making it a perfect excuse to snap a picture of this stunning mural on your next daily walk. The green offers picturesque views of Lewisham borough and the rest of South London; if you’re looking for a way to feel connected to your local area again, just being able to see it in the distance can really help! The Friends of Hilly Fields group are still working hard to tend to the fields during their daily exercise and keep it a peaceful safe haven during these anxious times.
Ladywell Fields
Ladywell Fields is a wide open green space with a walking path around its perimeter, perfect for adding some colour to your daily walks. It can also be a great place for your furry friends to get some exercise too, giving your dog plenty of room to run and around and let off some steam! There are several ancient trees to admire in these fields, including a rare Flanders elm that bears a ‘Great Trees of London’ plaque. It's worth taking a moment for yourself by the river at the calming current.

Telegraph Hill Upper Park
Another great spot for dog walkers, Telegraph Hill Upper Park can be found on the south side of Ditto Road. It’s towering trees envelope the walking path, giving you a sheltered and safe feeling. The green is clean and open, allowing you to take in the fresh air at either the start or end of your day. As opposed to the lower park, the upper park is the only section that is open 24 hours to dog owners and a great excuse to give both you and your dog a chance to stretch your legs!

Deptford Park
One of the smaller parks on our list, Deptford Park is a wonderful park to pass through for when you’re tired of seeing grey pavement and want to add a pop of green to your day! The park was originally a market garden that belonged to the estate of the Evelyn Family, as William John Evelyn was an MP for Deptford back in 1885. After the London County Council purchased the land, it became the park we know today, still keeping much of the same features as its original, including an avenue of London plane trees. Overall, the park is a charming pocket of green to brighten your mood.

Sydenham Wells Park
Sydenham Wells Park is best known and appreciated for its serene pond that locals can escape to during anxious times. The sensory garden is filled with bright flowers planted to stimulate the senses, making it a great place to take the children and remind them how magical nature can be. The large pond also attracts several species of birds that you can look out for and even snap a picture during your walk.

Mountsfield Park
Found in Catford, Mountsfield Park is atop a hill that shows off stunning views of South London, including the Crystal Palace transmitting tower in the skyline and views of the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill. With so much to see from one spot, it's a lovely green space to give yourself hope for all the exciting things you’ll be able to do after lockdown. For now however, locals can enjoy the smooth green space, with varying species of trees to admire. At 32 acres, it is a key park of Lewisham borough and it’s expansive size should make for a less-stressful time for social distancing.
