Adjacent to Dulwich Community Hospital, Eugen and his family offer a wide range of delicious lunches available to eat in or takeaway. The menu at Piece of Cake Café is surprisingly diverse in its simplicity; you can choose from a range of paninis, baguettes, traditional sandwiches, jacket potatoes and salads. Originally an excellent mobile tea room set up by local resident Jenni Brady, the story behind this independent business is a testament to the creativity and entrepreneurialism in this part of South London.
Having been inspired by a trip to a Bridgenorth shop called Tea & Roses, a vintage style living shop and tea room, Jenni became set on opening her own team room in her local area. The South East Cakery is an expressive independent bakery in Peckham, South London. Since its formulation, this experimental & creative group of talented bakers have been delighting the people of South London with their brownies and cakes at street food markets from Lewisham to Camberwell and beyond. This exciting young venture was established by Maria and Alex who, being able to DJ in the evening and bake during the day, we’re able to start baking goods to sell- and so The South East Cakery was born.
Combining their various passions; brownies; cakes; cocktails and; music was a premise from the off and the result has been spectacularly popular. Their online shop, where you can order their delicious baked goods for collection (free) or for delivery to your door (£5), is host to a small & exclusive selection of mouth-watering treats. The enterprise began in 2008, when artisan chocolatier Isabelle Alaya started out selling her premium chocolate to the people of Peckham, on Bellenden Road. In addition to the making and selling of their divine chocolates, Isabelle and the team also offer chocolate making classes from The Chocolate Museum in Brixton, which was founded in 2013 by Isabelle due to her desire to teach people about quality chocolate and its history.
These are ideal for birthdays, corporate events, hen parties or even as family activities. On top of that, Isabelle offers special sessions for schools (visit The Chocolate Museum for more info).
They also offer a Chocolate and Wine tasting evening workshop at Melange’s premises on Maxted Road, ideal for those looking to indulge whilst winding down.
There are 15 different flavours of chocolate bars to choose from; 6 dark, 6 milk and 3 white. All dark chocolates are dairy-free and the only animal product used in the other varieties is milk. All chocolate bars are free from nuts, gluten, preservatives and substitutes. The portion sizes are 90g bags, which are made up of around 5 strips of chocolate, each one is layered into slabs and cut by hand. Alternatively, you can buy single 20g strips and even mix and match to create your own sized bag with different flavours.
