Davy’s Wine Vaults offers a classic option for a romantic meal, decorated with vintage pieces in its 19th Century building, it has a distinct feel. In the summer, you can also watch the world go by in their outdoor seating area. Enjoy a glass or two of wine with your date from their excellent and extensive wine menu. The food menu is equally as expansive and features British classics including fish and chips, and sausages and mash. Pizza Luciano, Blackheath: Best for Take-away Romance
Luciano’s Pizza place, while only a tiny take-away oriented outlet, is definitely up there for top romantic meals in the area. Located down the hill from Blackheath Village (on the way to Lee), this local independent has become a renowned favourite for its succulent and flavoursome freshly made pasta and authentic stone baked pizzas. The menu offers a classic selection of cured meats, and there is also an option of sharing platters including the appealing Gran Misto Mare Luciano - made up of a variety of fresh seafood. The sizeable selection of Italian wines, freshly made desserts, fairy lights, outdoor dining and intimate atmosphere all contribute to the romantic ambience. Prices are standard for London, but the portions are substantial and the selection of Italian liquors make for a truly toasty experience. The craftsmanship of the chefs and an impressive pizza oven are both on full display, again adding to the intimacy. Green Pea, Greenwich: Best for a 'Home Cooked' Feel
Owned and managed by the charismatic, worldly and eccentric restauranteur, Tom; this cosy little-known restaurant was for a long time, according to Tripadvisor, rated the best restaurant (out of 20,000 others) in London. It's true, we Googled it. While the interior feels like you've stepped back into your Grandmother's living room circa. 1995, the hospitality and simple-yet-spectacular menu outshine any discrepancy in the decor.
Champagne and Fromage, Greenwich: Best for a Special Occasion
What’s more romantic than having a glass of artisanal champagne and sharing a baked camembert? There isn’t an overwhelming selection of food, but there is a respectable range of cheese and charcuterie boards, as well as a choice of deserts. One to enjoy for a special occasion.
Locale, Blackheath Village: Best for Cocktails
Ideal for cosy couples, Locale radiates romance from all corners of its spacious and glamorous restaurant and bar area. It is located on a side street in the village (like most hidden gems) and is a stylish cornerstone of the Blackheath food scene. The mix of dimmed lights, beautiful live music and mock balconies that overlook the cosy streets of the village add to the superb quasi-Parisian ambience so ingrained in classic notions of conventional romantic settings. Locale is not a cheap date, so be prepared to splash some cash on their sizeable selection of seafood sharers, delicious prime cut steaks and 5 Star Martinis.
Royal Teas, Greenwich: Best for Coffee and Cake
Royal Teas is set on a beautifully quiet road just off Greenwich town centre, on the way to Point Hill. It offers a delicious veggie menu, with everything from wraps and salads to steaming jacket potatoes. They also do excellent American-style breakfasts with a large range of coffee and teas, with an even more impressive array of cakes.
The Scullery, Blackheath Standard: Best for Seasonal Food
Tucked away next to the pub at Blackheath Standard, The Scullery has been quietly providing for the gastronomic desires of local residents for quite some time. With a commitment to sourcing ingredients locally, seasonally and sustainably, The Scullery earns it’s place as one of Blackheath’s most romantic food destinations.
